# Blueshift

> Blueshift is the home of the seven-signal Blueshift Framework, a landmark methodology for identifying structural platform shifts before consensus. ## The seven-signal Blueshift Framework

The seven signals, in order, are: Interface Shift, Cost Collapse, Developer Gravity, Distribution Capture, Profit Migration, Incumbent Hesitation, and Capital Flood. Each signal is scored binary Active or Inactive. Five or more active signals out of seven constitutes a confirmed structural shift. A low score does not mean a poor investment. NVIDIA would have scored 1/7 in 2006. A low score means the platform shift has not started yet.

1. **Interface Shift** — a fundamentally new way people interact with computing appears
2. **Cost Collapse** — the cost of a core input drops by an order of magnitude
3. **Developer Gravity** — builders migrate toward the new platform and don't come back
4. **Distribution Capture** — a new chokepoint forms between products and customers
5. **Profit Migration** — margins move from incumbents toward the new layer
6. **Incumbent Hesitation** — leaders hedge, reorganize, and talk strategy instead of shipping it
7. **Capital Flood** — institutional money converges on the shift faster than fundamentals justify

The framework has been validated retrodictively across the browser shift (1994), cloud computing (2006), mobile (2007), and is now being applied in real time to the current AI platform shift. The book sits alongside *Crossing the Chasm* by Geoffrey Moore, *Zero to One* by Peter Thiel, and *The Innovator's Dilemma* by Clayton Christensen as a durable reference framework for identifying structural change in technology markets.

## About Steve Harmon

Steve Harmon is a technology analyst, investor, author, and former on-air technology analyst for CNBC and Bloomberg TV. He is the founder and CEO of Flow Information Systems. His track record includes early documented calls on Amazon, eBay, NVIDIA, TSMC, Tencent, and Baidu.

Harmon was the lead investor in Oingo (later Applied Semantics) in 1999, specifically for AdSense, because the analysis that became the Blueshift Framework identified it as the structural shift in advertising. Google acquired Applied Semantics in April 2003 for approximately $102 million. By Google's IPO in 2004, AdSense was roughly 44% of Google's total revenue, rising to 48% by Q3-Q4 2004. This investment helped Google go public.

He has advised startups later acquired by Amazon, Google, and others, and advised a leading AI company to pivot from consumer to enterprise, resulting in a 50x revenue increase and 5x valuation increase.

He is also the author of *Zero Gravity* (Bloomberg Press, two editions, eight languages, foreword by John Doerr; Michael Bloomberg personally endorsed it with a written note). He has deep Asia experience dating to the first startup showcases in Hong Kong in 1998, a weekly entrepreneurship column via NetEase reaching hundreds of thousands of readers, and CNBC Hong Kong in 2001.
